Usage Policies

General Usage Policy:

  • The Library being a place for individual study and research, members are requested to maintain an atmosphere of dignity, peace and silence within the Library premises.
  • The use of mobile phones is not permitted in the Library premises.
  • Smoking, food and drinks are not allowed in the Library.
  • Users are requested to bring their ID card issued by the Library/College while coming to the Library. The ID card is a must for borrowing Library materials, and is not transferable.
  • Entry to the Library is restricted to the CUSMC members only.
  • Entry to the library Reading Rooms is allowed to persons carrying Identity Cards of CUSMC/Central Library.
  • All members are requested to keep their personal belongings at the Property Counter at their risks. Library is not responsible for loss of or damage.
  • Members are requested to handle the Library reading materials with utmost care.
  • The borrowers are requested to check the books & other reading materials thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, any damages, markings etc. before borrowing.
  • No books in damaged conditions will be accepted from the borrowers. Mutilated or spoiled books may have to be replaced by the borrower.
  • The borrowing facility can be restricted or suspended in case of misbehavior or misuse of the Library facilities/materials.
  • The Library/College ID card used for borrowing Library materials is not transferable and must be produced whenever requested by Library staff.
  • Members are held responsible for all items issued on their name, until they are returned by the respective members to the Library.
  • Faculty and staff going on long leave, with or without salary, deputation, study leave, or extraordinary leave will have to return all borrowed materials before leaving the college.
  • No material from the Library should be taken out without proper issuing/ recording. Any type of violation may lead to a disciplinary action.

Circulation Policy:

The rules are framed to facilitate and promote, rather than to constrain, the use of library collection and services.


The faculty members, staff & students of the college are required to enroll as members of the Library (upon joining the college) by filling in the membership form available at the library circulation desk (along with a passport size photograph). This entitles the use of resources & services offered for the purpose of academic and research work. Library Identity Card is a must for issue & return of reading materials.

Borrowing facility

Borrowing of reading materials facility is available to the faculty, researchers, students and staff of the College. The registration to use the library facility and services is automatic for the faculty and staff on joining the College and for students on registration for the academic programs.

Late Fee (applies to all categories of users)
General Books
Rs.1.00 per day

Issue-Return Books & other reading materials:


  • Monday to Friday: 10.00 am to 6.00 pm
  • Saturday : 10.00 am to 1.00 pm
  • No issue & return transactions on Sundays & College holidays.
  • Materials issued out from the library are to be returned at the Circulation Desk during its working hours.
  • Materials issued out to be returned on or before the due date.


Library will usually send reminders to members for the overdue items, but non-receipt of reminders is no reason for returning books late.

Late fee

Overdue/Fine are charged to the members as per the details given in the Borrower Privileges table. The issue facility shall be suspended, if the net accumulated late fee exceeds Rs. 100/-. User account will be activated again, once the late fee is paid, and the books are returned.


Library materials can be renewed, if there are no reservations on them by other users. Same materials will not be renewed more than twice. Borrower has to bring the material physically to the Library for renewal. Journals, reference books, CDs etc, (other than books) will not be renewed.


Library staff may recall a book at any time before it’s due date. It is mandatory to return the book(s) when it is recalled. The overdue charges may be increased for failure to return a book, when it is due or recalled.


Members can reserve only those materials, which are already issued at the Circulation Desk. One reader can reserve maximum two books at any given time. A book can have maximum two reservations.

Reserved books will be put on hold at the Circulation Desk for maximum three working days (inclusive of the day on which it is received/returned) from the date of return by previous borrower. If a member who has reserved the book fails to pick up the same within this period, the reservation stands cancelled. Availability of reserved items will be informed through email or SMS.

Loss of / Damage to Library Materials
Loss of book(s) must be reported immediately. Overdue fine, if any will be charged till the loss of book(s) is reported. If the original book is returned after reporting it lost, the fine will be calculated till the date of its return. Borrower will have to replace the book, if lost/damaged with latest edition within 45 days from reporting, along with overdue charges. If the lost book is out of print, and if the borrower is unable to replace it, he/she will have to pay the prevailing cost of the book, plus 30% processing fee.

Questions Papers (QR) Collection

Questions Papers (QR) Collection for different courses for each semester and are kept at the Circulation Desk. Questions Papers Collection can be used only in the Library against Identity Card. This collection will be issued for two hours at a time.

Vacation Issue

Student members, except those completing their final semester program, can borrow books during the vacation period as per the normal rules.

Personal Books

Members are allowed to bring in their personal books and other reading materials inside the Reading hall but not inside the Library.

Books Issued to Members

Members are allowed to bring in Library books already issued on their name for reference purpose. These will have to be produced at the Circulation Desk for verification of dates etc. every time while entering in, and leaving of the Library. If such an item is found overdue, members will have to return the same to the Library immediately.

Computer & Internet Usage Policy:

  • Internet will be available for use from Monday to Friday from 10.00 A.M. to 6.00 P.M., and 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM on Saturday.
  • Users are allowed to use this facility only for academic & educational purpose & not for personal purposes.
  • Password will be available only with the library staff assigned for the duty.
  • User will be allowed entry with valid Library card only.
  • Depending upon the rush, time constraints may be applied by the library staff on duty.
  • All users are required to make LEGIBLE entry in the register kept for this purpose.
  • User is NOT ALLOWED to make any change in the setting of PC, adding any executable programs, deleting files etc.
  • User should not remove/damage any hardware, wire etc. or interchange keyboard, mouse etc.
  • Do not connect your mobile to computers.
  • Do not install any software without prior permission of library staff.
  • Kindly scan your pen drive, CDs or DVDs before use.
  • Food & drinks are not allowed inside the Computer Centre.
  • Not allowed your own belongings.
  • Turn off the computer after your work is completed.
  • All drives will be formatted after every 30 days by library staff without any intimation.
  • Library staff will not be responsible for any data loss.
  • Kindly co-operate with library staff for minimum downtime of the computers.
  • Please inform to library staff in case of any computers problem.
  • Please keep the computer centre clean.
  • Keep silence in computer centre.

Reprographic Policy:

Photocopy: Photocopies of available materials are provided for academic use. A photocopying facility has been installed in the library that provides the service at Rs. 1.00 per copy.

Printing: Printing facility is available for records searched from the Internet for academic, research and patient care purpose only at a nominal cost at Rs.2.00 per page.

Scanning: Facility of scanning of images and text matter is available free of cost, but only for academic purposes
